‘I love food but it’ll increase my weight’
‘I just had a small piece of cake yesterday and I increased 2 kgs next day’
‘I eat only soup and salad for dinner’
‘Please don’t talk about food, I’ll put on’ 😛
And many more such punch lines my clients come up with!! I wonder how can a thought of food increases weight? 😯
My clients are shocked when I ask them to eat more food in their weight loss program but their fear makes them resistant to eat it. And there when my job starts……..
Yes! You need to eat more and more and more food to lose that extra stored fat.
Now more food does not mean that you’ll eat a big pan pizza at a time. Eating more food simply means eating a wholesome meal, frequently with love.
But ‘Food is evil, it makes you fat’ mindset drives you crazy when it comes to weight loss.
Working out and skipping meals or extra workout sessions and starving yourself will not do any good to you. Rather you’ll end up getting frustrated and lose your health.
Even if you lose some kilos, you’ll bounce back double of what you lost.. Heard this story right?
It’s high time that we educate people around and make them understand beauty of nutrition in our lives.
‘Nothing is more sincere Love than the love for food’
The problem with us is that we don’t relate positively with our food. This negativity and fear leads to lower metabolism and fat gain. Therefore, before stepping in the healthy regime, building a positive relationship with food can solve all the issues of weight loss.
India is a country where ethics of food eating habits were given too much importance which we forgot with growing moderanization.
- Sit straight
- Do not talk while eating
- Sit with your family to eat food
- No watching TV while eating food
Were some of the habits inculcated since childhood from our DADIS. Ohh! I miss those days.
These practices imbibe strong relationship with food which improves digestion, nutrient absorption, resulting in weight loss.
My 6 MAGICAL TIPS will help you get out of the trap of this negative feeling for food and build a strong relationship with food like no one else in this world:
1-Gratitude for your food
Traditionally each zone of the earth, chants some gratitude prayer before eating a meal.
Thanking your meal makes you calmer which opens your mind to hear the signals of your stomach on fullness. The best benefit of this would be that it will stop you from overeating.
So be thankful to the abundance of food you get to eat each day- milk, dals, cereals, ghee, nuts, eggs, meat, fruits and vegetables. Give gratitude to the cook and the person serving you food.
2-Give attention to your food
Stop watching TV, keep your laptop and cell phones away while eating food. Look at your food, how colourful it looks, how good it smells, how good the texture is when you touch it, how tasty the food tastes that it just melts in your mouth. This feeling of goodness will help in secretion of gastric juices and better absorption of nutrients from the food.
3-Be calm and chew you food slowly
Chewing you food slowly not only makes you enjoy your food but also gives you the feeling of fullness soon. You are less likely to overeat.
4-Eat homemade, freshly prepared food
The foods available in the market or the ready to cook food in stores are not filled with love and care. Love creates a positive vibe in you towards the food you eat. It makes it easy digestible and also fulfills your nutrient requirements.
Hygiene is another factor that will be taken care in this. At home, we will use the best possible ways to keep that food free from contamination. You will experience one wonderful sense of well being after eating homemade foods rather than eating the food which are commercially endorsed to make profits.
5-Stop comparing with others
Competition with others pushes you make unrealistic goals. ‘What in her plate’ attitude drives you nuts to lose weight faster by starving.
Learn from the story we learnt in our childhood which says- ‘Slow and steady wins the race’ Just enjoy the path you chose for YOURSELF and not to prove others that you are better. When you will enjoy and reach your goals, the same people will come and ask you your fitness mantra.
6- Don’t feel guilty
‘I cheated today, I am not worth doing anything, I am fat, there is no way I can achieve my goal’
Once you cheat, you start feeling depressed. There is no harm in doing that. Do not feel guilty if you cheat once. If you are following your schedule well in one full week, then one cheat meal will not make a difference. Enjoy your cheat meal too 😆
Things are too simple, but we complicate it. Patience, alignment with the nature of the food, our behavior can change our views about food. Then controlling food will not be a big deal. It will just allow us to feel free and joyous by adding more life to lives.
