Did you know, the more we eat, we burn more calories?
Quit surprising statement made above right! But it’s absolutely the right fact.
‘Eat more number of calories to lose fat’
‘Eat more frequently to burn fat.’
‘Eating more will help you look younger and toned’
‘Eating more will help you prevent/ control diseases like Diabetes, cholesterol, hypothyroidism’
Let us understand the concept of ‘How to lose weight by eating more calories?’
Calories supply’s energy to our body to function efficiently. Therefore, whether you workout, dance, jump, sleep, or smile, you are burning calories.
The same way we are burning calories while chewing and digesting the food.
Now suppose you cut down your food intake to 500Kcal by consuming less food quantity or skipping your meals. Your food intake was 2000kcal and now it has reduced to 1500kcal.
In this case, if a nutritionist is planning your diet by counting calories, then cereals + pulse + vegetables will have same caloric value as a piece of cake.
Cereal + Pulse + Vegetable = 300kcal
1 piece of cake = 300kcal
Therefore, in such a situation when the calories are the same, you can chose cake over cereal, pulse and vegetable.
If you do so, Cake will not burn many calories to digest; it’ll not give you satiety, will get absorbed in the stomach faster and make you feel hungry within 15 mins. Whereas cereal, pulse and vegetable will take longer time to digest, will require more number of calories to burn, keeps you full for at least 2 hours, keeps you energetic and avoids craving and overeating.
Such foods which take longer time to digest and needs more number of calories to burn are known as ‘Thermogenic Foods’
Have you observed, people who eat less and lose weight? Never look attractive and charming. That is because eating less calories, and having the wrong choice of food can only drain your energy, water and muscle mass. You weight scale might show less weight but what you lose is not fat. This further reduces your metabolism, leading to high body fat percentage and high risk to poor health.
Such diets can cause severe deficiencies and aggravates knee pain, back pain even after losing weight.
Cutting down calories is a very outdated method to lose weight.
What to eat to lose weight (fat)?
Eat high thermogenic foods, every 2-3 hours to burn more number of calories.
- Whole cereals like wheat, bajra, jowar, nachni, oats, quinoa
- Whole pulses like sprouts, channa, moong, rajma, chole
- Whole vegetables and whole fruits (do not juice it)
- Nuts and dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, cashew, prunes, dates
- Oilseeds like flaxseeds, gardencress seeds, pumpkin seeds
- Healthy fats like Ghee, home made butter, whole milk and its products
- You’ll feel energetic.
- You’ll have a toned body.
- You’ll lose more inches than weight.
- You’ll have a glowing face and healthy hair.
