”Banana, chickoo, custard apple, mango or grapes -> Eliminate, they are fattening..Rest fruits are safe and healthy… eat them as much as you want” 😯
Quit a thing, you must be doing on a diet, right? 😯
One category of good and bad fruits is already seeded in your mind, but that was not enough, that from the good ones, another sub- category is made for best ones like dragon fruit is better than apple, you see…
NO NO… The Green Grany Apple
Nahh… Rambutan/ blueberry/ apple golden… blah blah blah!!!
Imported fruits are surely better for health… isn’t?
No, it’s not true. 😈
How?
Let’s understand the nature of food and break down the wrong notions you carry in your head..
1- Stop Categorizing- Fruits are gift of nature and natural is always nutritious. Stop categorizing good or bad fruits. Every fruit has it’s own nature and properties. Elimination of one and substituting other with no do added good to you.
2- All fruit are sugars- Banana, mango, chickoo, custard apple, mango, watermelon, grapes are fructose in nature. Fructose too gets broken down into glucose in digestion, therefore categorizing them is pointless.
3- Fruits juices are not great for health- Fruits are good for health, not the juice. Fruits are rich in fibre and antioxidants along with sugars (glucose/ fructose), therefore, juicing will remove the fibre and destroys the antioxidant. So, what you are left out with is nothing but sugar syrup (fruit juice). Read my blog: Fruit Juices for Healthy Skin: Myth << Click here
4- Only fruits for breakfast or dinner- As I said, fruits are sugars, eating them at the wrong time means eating them when your body doesn’t need glucose to fat.
During breakfast- You need a blend of healthy fats, proteins, and complex carbs to sustain blood glucose levels throughout the day. Fruits will just spike your energy for 15 mins and will crash it down leaving you hungry and low energy.
Similarly for dinner- Your metabolism is low in evening and nights. You need slow absorbed carbs, proteins and fats to keep the blood glucose level optimal through out the night. If fruits are eaten in dinner, it will instantly spike up your blood glucose level beyond it’s limit, keep it high for 15 mins and crash it down after that. Therefore, the next day you feel more tired, hungry (overeat) and feel low energy.
5- Eating fruits instead of desserts- Fruits are sugars too. Of course, better than trans fat and refined flour desserts but that too is getting converted to fat.
How?
When your stomach is full with food, it’s just enough for your body’s energy. If excess of food goes in, may it be a fruit, dessert, or even an extra serving of roti, is getting converted to fat. Body will always store the excess in the body and convert it to fat.
Magical Action Plan:
1- All fruits are the part of nature and are well accepted by our body. Eat them without discrimination. No thinking good or bad.
2- All fruits are nutritious and great for health.
3- Eating local fruits are very important as they retain the nutritional value more than the imported. Every fruit grows according to the season and the need of humans. Therefore, enjoy local fruits wherever you travel instead of enjoying the imported fruits.
4- Never juice fruits, eat them raw, chew the fruits directly without chopping them. If fruits are big in size, then slice them or cut them into big pieces to retain as much nutrition as possible.
5- Eat fruits only when your blood glucose levels are low like early morning (except diabetic)/ post workout or when physically very active like walking in sun.
6- If you wish to eat fruits in between the day time, then always combine them with healthy fats like whole milk, yogurt, cream, or nuts.
Why?
Because when sugars are combined with healthy fats, it lowers the Glycemic Index (the absorption rate) or in simple language, it doesn’t spike the blood glucose level too high and convert it to fat.
7- What if you want to sometimes have fruit juice?
Best time will be post workout or when you are on a holiday and walking in sun a lot. The fruit’s glucose will be used up for replenishing the energy levels.
8- What about avocado? That’s the only fruit which is high in healthy fats. You can make dips from this or have it at any time of the day.
So here were my reality check to you on fruit.
