Workout is a form of stress on your body (the positive stress), where the maximum recovery will happen only when you eat well.
Not eating post workout is like a labor job- working hard and not eating…
What you get as a result is the malnourished body… Excuse me, obesity too is malnourishment…
Poor health
Lower immunity
Poor productivity/ concentration
Fat gain and muscle loss
Why is post workout meal so important?
When you workout, body uses muscles glycogen stores to be used as energy initially gradually bit of muscles, followed by fat as the source of energy.
Due to the strain on the muscles, which is now sore and is full of lactic acid, it needs proteins, carbs and antioxidant for its repair. The more our muscles recovered, the more will be the fat loss later.
If post workout meal is skipped or is unhealthy, then muscle remains sore and doesn’t develop. Therefore, there is no fat loss.
Post Workout Meal has a direct relationship with fat loss

When the muscle mass increases in the body, the body fat percentage reduces. And the only way to increase muscle mass is by doing exercise (especially weight training).
When you workout, muscles are contracting and relaxing continuously to make the movement, therefore muscles are now sore and is ready to grow. If you skip the post workout meal, then you won’t grow the muscle and therefore, not lose fat.
Eating post workout meal will recover the muscles; help you grow the muscle mass and burn lots of fat.
What should you eat post workout?
A combination of proteins and carbs with enough antioxidants is vital.
Eg: Egg with multigrain bread and veggies
Paneer veg with roti
Curd with rice and veggies
Proteinshake in milk with fruit
Chicken or fish with rice and veggies
If you are weight training and your intensity is between below 15 REPS then, you should without fail have whey protein 25gms in water with glucose powder or BCAA.
Can we eat any unhealthy food when I workout?
I have seen so many people eating wada pav, sandwiches, pani pur, bhel puri, etc after they leve from my gym. Honestly, it’s like abusing your body more.
It’s the common mentality our society has is that we can eat anything if we workout and I’m here to give you a reality check that, when you workout, you need to eat more of healthy foods to get healthier and in shape.
If you skip or eat any crap post workout, you are not giving the optimal nutrition to recover the muscles. Poor recovery will lead to poor strength and lower immunity and zero fat loss.
Magical Action plan for Post Workout meal:
· If you workout, then eat post workout without fail.
· Plan your post workout meal before hand to avoid skipping meal or going wrong.
· You must eat your post workout meal within 30 mins of exercise.
· Decide of the good combination of carbs and proteins with antioxidants post workout.
· Protein food list: whole milk, yogurt, curd, paneer, whole egg, chicken, fish.
· Carbs like whole cereals- wheat, bajra, nachni, oats but best will be rice as it has BCAA (essential amino acids- proteins), fruits
· Antioxdiants like fruits and veggies (all variety)
· If you are weight training, then you must have whey in water with glucose powder or BCAA supplement post workout, as weight training is intense and gives maximum fat loss.
· Drink enough water to avoid dehydration. Sipping water during workout and post workout should be included.
· Never skip your post workout meal.
